Murphy v. Theodore

021709

Murphy played Theodore on February 17 at Cottage Hill Park.

The field at Cottage Hill was still soggy from the recent rains and this affected play to some degree.

Murphy got off to a fast start with Manny Diaz scoring in the 5th minute with a header off a corner kick.  Michael Taylor got the assist.

Play was back and forth for much of the first half with Murphy generally getting the better of it possessing the ball for a substantial portion of the half.

Carlo Schick scored Murphy's second goal in the 30th minute with a left footed shot just inside the 18 when he collected the ball after a Theodore defender misplayed the ball.

Atem Kout scored Murphy's third goal of the first half in the 37th minute when he collected a Theodore goal kick and drove past the Theodore defense and took the shot and scored.

The first half ended with Murphy in control of the game and leading 3-0.  Theodore had no shots on goal in the half.

With many of Murphy's starters on the bench and Coach Richardson substituting freely in the second half, Theodore saw a couple of more opportunities gaining two shots on goal but making both shots in the 17th and 19th minutes.

After the second Theodore goal, Murphy reasserted itself and went back to a possession game and dominated the game from the 19th minute forward.

Carlo Schick scored Murphy's last goal in the 40th minute.

All in all, Murphy dominated time of possession and shots on goal in a solid win for the Panthers that may not be reflected in the final score.
