Prayers Needed

February 17, 2009

March 6, 2009 UPDATE:  Toni has been released from the hospital!  She is going to undergo a long period of rehabilitation so your continued prayers and support are still needed.

March 3, 2009 UPDATE:  Toni had additional successful surgery last Friday and she is becoming more active.  She is now able to sit up on the side of her bed.  Her parents are looking forward to her return home (as we are all sure she is as well).  She is in the healing process and is now considering her rehabilitation options (home or in a facility).  Estimates on her release from the hospital range from one week to three weeks.

On a bright note, Toni had previously received a scholarship offer from a college in North Carolina and they have told Toni that they will honor that offer.

February 26, 2009 UPDATE: Toni will undergo additional surgery on her leg and arm on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

RBC Bank has set up a benefit account for Toni in order to help the family pay for upcoming medical and other expenses pursuant to this accident.  Should you be able to, donations can be made at any RBC Bank branch, just tell them you want to make a donation for the benefit for Toni Devaney.   For questions contact:

February 19, 2009 UPDATE:  Unfortunately, Toni's condition has worsened.  One report indicates that one of her lungs collapsed last night.  She is still in critical need of everyone's thoughts and prayers.

Gulf Shores High School student and soccer player Toni Devaney was seriously injured in a head on collision on Canal Road in Gulf Shores on Tuesday evening.

Gulf Shores police say 20-year-old Samara Santos lost control of her minivan late Tuesday afternoon on a stretch of Canal Road known as "Concrete Curve" and hit Devaney's Impala head-on.   Santos was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old Devaney was on her way to the school's first soccer game of the season.

Devaney was trapped inside her car for more than an hour. She was taken by life flight to Sacred Heart Hospital with leg injuries.

Devaney underwent over eight hours of surgery and is in intensive care.  She's listed in serious condition.

Devaney's principal said the injuries could end her promising soccer career.

Please keep this young lady and her family in your prayers as she faces a long and difficult recovery.
